Welcome to
The Indie Developer's Guide (Beta)

A wiki through which independent game developers (Indies) can share their knowledge in creating and distributing games. These pages not only deal with the stages of creating a game, but also the business side - from starting a company to promoting, marketing and advertising a game as an independent developer.

The site is new and still in the process of build-up, some sections are still non-existent, or in the early stages of being filled out. This is a community site, by the community for the community, so feel free to join in and become a part of the bright future of The Indie Developer's Guide. Any contribution, however small, is appreciated.

Right now we are in a beta review phase of the wiki. If you like to provide us with your feedback, you can do so either in a thread in our forum or this thread in the IndieGamer Forums

If you are new to this site, check out the Introduction and About pages.

If you are new to game development and considering becoming an Indie, check out Going Indie.

If you like to contribute to this site or edit existing content, check out the Community Portal.

Check out the News page on updates to this site.

Check out the Indie News page on what is going on in the community.

The Indie Developer's Guide is still an ongoing project. It will soon have a new visual makeover in the future, and a slightly new direction. Those visiting and supporting us, I thank you all and I hope you'll find the new direction interesting and exciting once we get it rolled out.

Stages of Game Creation

People design games in different ways, some come up with ideas and create a prototype to test the basic idea while others write down every last detail before a single line of code is ever written. The stages below will take you through every aspect of the design process, no matter your style, from the decision of whether to go full time or part time to modifying sounds to make the perfect effect, every angle of creating a game is covered.

Stages of Business

No matter how good your game is, if you do not pay attention to the business side of things you run the risk of your game getting lost in the thousands of games released every year. Finding your market, promotion, and advertising is all about getting your game noticed by the gaming community and media alike. Do not ignore the business side and risk letting your game fade away.
